Counselling for Children
At House on the Hill Paediatric Therapy Services in Canberra, we provide Counselling services for children aged 7+. Just a few of the things we can help with are Social Interaction, Anxiety, Emotional Regulation, Depression and Low Self Esteem.
Counselling is the process of building a therapeutic relationship, providing safety, being there to listen to worries, fears, triumphs, and everything in between.

Our counsellors can help with unpacking issues, finding their cause, and developing new skills to cope with and assist in dealing with those problems moving forward. This can include issues like making friends or dealing with bullying.
We believe the essence of the counselling relationship is safety, where clients feel safe to reveal their deepest fears and most problematic thoughts, and feel safe to ask for help. We focus on building a relationship based on warmth, trust, unconditional positive regard, genuineness and empathy.
Counselling approaches can vary, from reflecting back what’s heard, which can challenge clients to interpret things differently and can encourage them to grow and develop. Or it may be to simply listen to the words and allow clients to get it all out in a therapeutic setting.
Our counsellors are trained in and practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is a strongly evidence-based therapeutic process to assist in change. Sessions can be arranged as one-off, a program or ongoing, as agreed with your counsellor.

Tween and Teen Support!
This service allows tweens and teens (specifically ages 10 – 17 yo) to explore themselves in a safe and supportive environment.
We understand that not everyone enjoys being in a room. So by varying our approach, for example by being in nature, or through age appropriate game play, we can assist tweens and teens with emotional regulation, depression, social interaction, anxiety, and much more.
And by supporting individuals to feel comfortable in their surroundings, we’re able to help them achieve their goals!
With a values based mindfulness approach to working with others, we look at what values each individual holds dear, and we make plans to live in a way that supports those values.
