Initial Assessment
The first step of your family’s Occupational Therapy journey starts with an initial assessment for your child, including but not limited to the following areas…

Gross Motor Skills
Through observed movement we can assess your child balance, core strength, postural control, tone and reflexes.

Fine Motor Skills
Finger isolation and manipulation as well as hand strength and endurance is appraised during fine motor tasks.

Handwriting
Standardised assessments are completed to establish your childs pencil control, letter formation, visual perceptual skills.

Sensory
A sensory profile assessment can be performed with you and your child to identify any sensory difficulties. A separate assessment can be provided to your childs teacher.

Behaviour
By means of discussion with you and observation of your child during interaction with their surroundings, strategies for self regulation and behavioural management can be recommended.

Social Skills
Your child’s engagement and general social skills are established and a proposal to progress these is developed.
Program Delivery
After your child’s initial assessment, our therapists will create a bespoke, ongoing intervention program that’s designed around you and your child’s needs.
Some of the most popular types of intervention and resources are as follows…

1:1 Therapy Sessions
These sessions are between your child and the therapist, focussing on engagement in play/games to develop your child’s life skills.

School Visits
After teacher/school permission has been sought, our therapists observe your child within their class setting and complete a collaborative strategic plan for progress.

Family Sessions
Where required family play sessions are conducted to identify any areas requiring development within family interactions.

Large Equipment
Equipment such as swings, ball pits and gym balls are utilised to develop gross motor and sensory skills.

Small Equipment
Play dough, board games and clever books are incorporated in treatment programs to promote hand strength and sensory awareness.

Relaxation
To advance self regulation Mindfulness, joint compressions and Therabrushing can be demonstrated to you and your child.
Feeding Therapy
Have you tried different Feeding Therapy interventions for your anxious eater? Do you want to try a responsive and neuro-affirming way? Our Occupational Therapists provide feeding interventions to families and children experiencing mealtime challenges. These Feeding Therapy interventions include the following services:
- A comprehensive Occupational Therapy Assessment, consisting of a parent interview and feeding observations; we engage with parents to understand their child’s feeding history and why they might be anxious about, or not enjoying eating. Additionally, we investigate the child’s feeding skills, food repertoire, sensory preferences and mealtime skills.
- By applying responsive Feeding Therapy and neuro-affirming approaches we can help nurture the feeding relationship between child and caregiver, improving their connection, feeding skills, and a child’s intrinsic motivation to eat.
- Support for children who are very picky eaters or have anxiety surrounding food and mealtimes.
- Support for infants struggling with the transition to solids.
- Feeding support for children with diagnosed disabilities and developmental challenges.
- We will work with you and your child’s wider support network to create an effective treatment plan.
*N.B. These services are charged at standard OT rates, see below Fee List table.
